Massage Therapy

Last week, Meghan and I were walking by a new spa and wellness center. It had opened just a few weeks ago, so I decided to peek my head in for a brochure. I’ve been meaning to get a massage for quite some time. Cancer survivors’ bodies get pretty beaten up. We go through a lot, but I’m sure everyone feels like their bodies are going through the same thing.

I don’t know that massage therapy will necessarily cure my cancer, but according to the American Cancer Society, “massage has been shown in several studies to improve quality of life and well-being. It is helpful not only physically but emotionally as it soothes the soul and the mind."

They had a discount running in August so I scheduled one for tonight. They also have a promotion that your first 4 classes are free. It’s really incredible and my options are: Hatha Yoga, Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Mindful Yoga, Padma Yoga, Mat Pilates, Yogilates, Tai Chi, Qigong, and even Belly Dancing or Hula classes. I don't know that you'll see me in a Hula skirt or belly dancing, but please let me know if you want to join or which ones I should sign up for?

I thought we decided on belly dancing? Followed by a beer or two?

You've got to do belly dancing, Dan... ha! I would LOVE to see that!

Dan

I am again having difficult making a logic connection between message therapy and hula and belly dancing. However, if dancing is in, why not sign up for ballroom dancing. That way you and Meg can wow us in March. Of course you could also wow us by performing a belly dance in March.

As an alternative, why not just settle for a stint in the sauna.

Dan, Ithink u would enjoy mat pilates or yogalates which is a combo of yoga and pilates. I agree with John that dancing doesn't seem to have much in common with massage - except that dancing is a wonderful way to relieve stress. Dancing is exercise cleverly defined as FUN. mom

Dan, I think you should do the Hula for when you come to visit me and the baby. I have been doing Yoga for the past 6 months and I love it. I don't know what kind mine is. You should ask for some more description and observe a little and see what kind you like. Some classes are much harder than others. Sorry, I haven't given too many comments. I am trying to prepare for a major change in my life but I do read the blog. You guys seem to be doing pretty well. Keep up the good spirits and know that we are praying for you here in Hawaii. Love, Cindy

You've left a lot of room for comments with this post...I hope your massage was wonderful. I keep telling Meg you have to try the Thai yoga massage at Tranquil Spaces with Anne!! She is wonderful!

As far as yoga...I hope you love it. It will depend on what your body needs - meditation or stretching or to get your heart rate up. It sounds like they have it all there!

Waegs,

Very funny timing on this post regarding yoga. As I told you I just took a new job and share an office with my co-worker in the golf sales department. Working in the same space we have gotten to know each other very well. She has been teaching yoga for the past two years and practicing for almost a decade. She says it changed her life and that it provides both physical and metal rejuvination. So after reading your post I asked her what she suggested for you. She teaches hatha yoga so, of course, she is partial to that. Thought you'd appreciate a little insight from an expert.

Sidenote: She is also a 7 handicap and beat me in a 9 hole match the other night which has me thinking maybe I should be taking hatha yoga too.
